The accompanying diagram shows how Edu-Net works. District schools and universities are connected to the resources through policy firewalls at the data center. External users, such as regional schools, and research and development institutions can obtain access to the cloud using secure VPN tunnels over the Internet or through NLR/MAX/I2. Internet2, NLR, MAX peer directly with DC-Net through secure, dedicated firewalls. Customers can obtain access into the cloud at varying bandwidths ranging from 1 Mbps to 10 Gbps. In addition to data transport, DC-Net provides turnkey solutions to extend data connectivity to customer premises and its ongoing management.
