Portal Page Navigation

Look at the site from the perspective of the user. Try to determine how people will find what they're looking for in as few clicks as possible. The ideal is no more than three clicks (to the most detailed level of information).

Subnavigation Bars

On internal pages of the website, the left navigation bar should change to display the content within the section. In general, that means the left nav should reflect the navigation of the previous page. Here's a brief description of the subnavigation bars at different levels of the website:

  • Level 1: The home page represents the top level of navigation.
  • Level 2: At the first level down, such as on the Services index page, the left nav should display links to pages within the Services area and show only the top links to the Information and home pages.
  • Level 3: At the second level down, the left nav bar should display links to pages within a specific section of the Services area.
Level 1 (Home Page) Level 2 Level 3
