Appendix B: Glossary
3-in-1: A request form that is used throughout the District for procurement of goods and services (see also PN and Form 100).
Accruals: Expenses incurred against a project or subproject that may or may not have been invoiced (monies representing actual work performed and products delivered).
Activity: 1)Within the work breakdown structure of the methodology, a logical grouping of two or more closely related tasks that, when performed, result in a set of deliverables. Activities logically organize the work effort. 2)A unique unit of an operation performed within an organization. An activity is defined by its use of entities and is time bound.
Base Information: Project documentation not categorized in the project control book but filed as useful project information.
Baseline Plan: A version of a plan, with its associated estimate, that has been agreed to and accepted as part of the contract and is now subject to change management.
Business Process: A set of logically related tasks performed to achieve a defined business outcome. A "process" is a structured, measured set of activities designed to produce a specified output for a particular customer or market. It implies a strong emphasis on how work is done within an organization (Davenport 1993).
Business Process Reengineering (BPR): The analysis and redesign of workflow within and between enterprises.
Change: 1)An action to change the course or scope of a project. 2)A modification to the base material of the project. Usually a change covers a modification to deliverables with a corresponding modification to plans. The primary purpose of managing change is to ensure that the scope is kept achievable and costs are controlled. 3)An alteration in approach, requirements, or items, such as base documents.
Change Request: A documented proposal for a change. Each change request must be assessed to understand the impact on deliverables, plans, and cost, and then be accepted, rejected, or deferred.
Configuration Management: The process of managing an application environment and controlling the program library.
Contract: A formal, binding, written agreement between two parties, such as the service provider and a client, or OCTO and a third party contractor.
Contract Line Item (CLIN): A formal, documented description of an item meeting a specified objective. A CLIN will have a spending limit that draws from a parent Purchase Order (PO).
