(Washington, DC) The DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) will host the Connect.DC Technology Scavenger Hunt, an “Amazing Race”-style dash through the Benning/Marshall Heights and Anacostia/Hillsdale/Barry Farm areas. The event will feature a Community Day with remarks from CTO Rob Mancini, a local vendor area, entertainment, music, food, face painting and great resources for the whole family. The Scavenger Hunt is free and open to the public. Participants must be DC residents to be eligible for prizes.

What: A half-day Scavenger Hunt where residents will receive twelve clues that will lead them to partner locations. Participants must complete a digital activity before moving on to the next location.

When: Saturday, August 16, 2014; 11 am to 4 pm

Who: DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) staff and volunteers. District residents. Representatives from DC government agencies, community-based organizations and local businesses.

Background: The Connect.DC Technology Scavenger Hunt was designed to familiarize DC residents with technology resources, including public Internet access locations, digital learning activities, social media platforms and Connect.DC digital citizenship tools. The event is a digital demonstration project of OCTO’s Connected Communities Initiative, a multi-sector effort to build a culture of digital use to support neighborhood goals in areas such as employment, education and health.
