Every resident lives in a Police Service Area (PSA), and every PSA has a team of police officers and officials assigned to it. Each police district has between seven and nine PSAs. There are a total of 56 PSAs in the District of Columbia.

PropertyQuest has been developed by the District of Columbia Office of Planning as an easy way to view a wide range of site-related information, especially information on historic resources.

This online system enables home owners, tenants, and businesses alike to apply for the specific type of public space occupancy, construction, excavation, annual or rental permit required for use of the public space within the District of Columbia.

DC Water operates a wastewater collection system comprised of "separate" and "combined" sewers. Since the early 1900's, sewers constructed within the District have been separate systems and no new combined sewer system (CSS) have been built.

A “hotspot” is a site where anyone with a computer or other device with Wi-Fi capability can come and browse the Internet for free using the District’s wireless network. OCTO has installed hotspots in every Ward to provide convenient, citywide Wi-Fi Internet access for all.
